For Our Health Welcomes Supreme Court Decision, Calls for Swift Action to Release Critical Global Health Funds

For Our Health applauds the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the release of $2 billion in congressionally approved payments for U.S. businesses and nonprofit organizations engaged in USAID-funded global health and development initiatives. This ruling is a vital step in upholding the integrity of U.S. commitments and ensuring that critical global health programs continue without further disruption.

For decades, the United States has been a leader in global health, recognizing that strengthening public health systems abroad is not just an act of diplomacy, but a matter of national security. Infectious disease threats, maternal and child health crises, and other global health challenges do not recognize borders. By investing in international health programs, we help prevent and mitigate outbreaks before they become global threats, and protect American lives, health and global stability.

The prolonged delay in disbursing these congressionally mandated funds has severely impacted life-saving programs. Malnourished children have already suffered dire consequences, supply chains have been disrupted, and critical food supplies have gone to waste. It has also further eroded trust in U.S. commitments following policy reversals by the Trump administration. Now that the Court has provided clarity, the administration must act swiftly to release the funds and restore full operational capacity. Clear and decisive communication is essential to rebuild confidence in USAID’s leadership.

For Our Health remains committed to ensuring that the U.S. continues to lead in global health engagement. We urge policymakers to reaffirm the nation’s role in fostering health security and innovation worldwide, recognizing that a strong global health system is essential to safeguarding American health, economic stability, and geopolitical standing.
